Lake Timiskaming

Lake Timiskaming or Temiscaming is a large freshwater lake in Canada.

Situated on the provincial border between Ontario and Quebec, the lake lies on the Ottawa River. It is 110km in length, and covers an area of almost 295 square kilometers. While the water level is only 176m above sea-level, the lake is in places up to 216m deep.

The name is a corruption of the Algonquin name Temikami or Temikaming.

The lake and surrounding area are popular for outdoor recreation.

In June 1978, 12 children and 1 teacher from St John's School, Toronto died, when their canoes capsized on a school outing.
