La Jornada is one of Mexico's leading daily newspapers.
It was established in 1984 by Carlos Payán Velver .
La Jornada generally takes left-of-center stances, criticizing the Fox administration and some of the consequences of economic liberalization.
It is also sympathetic toward the Zapatista movement.
The editor (directora general) is Carmen Lira .
The online version was launched in 1995. There are no restrictions on access, including the archives.
