Khoy

Khoy (خوی in Persian), also spelt Khoi or Khvoy, is a city in West Azerbaijan, Iran. It is located between Maku and Urumieh.

The region's economy is based around farming, particularly the production of fruit, grain and timber. As of 2004, the city had a population of approximately 176,300. [1]

Control of Khoy has been disputed, having previously been attacked by Russia in 1827 and Turkey in 1911. During World War II, the city was under the control of the Soviet Union.
