Karditsa (Greek: ) is the name both of a city and of the prefecture in which it is located.

Karditsa is in western Thessaly in mainland Greece. The name literally means "the heart", as the city is in the centre both of Greece and of Thessaly. Within the province of Karditsa is the region of the Agrafa high in the mountains. Karditsa ls linked with GR-30 , the road to Karpenisi , and the road to Palamas and Larissa. Karditsa is south-west of Palamas and Larissa, west of Farsala and the Volos area, north-west of Athens, Lamia, Domokos and Sofades , north of Karpenisi , north-east of Arta, and east-south-east of Trikala, Grevena, Ioannina, and Kalampaka .

Karditsa has a school, lyceum, gymnasium, church, bank, post office, railway station on the Trikala–Karditsa–Domokos line, sports ground, water tower, and squares (plateies).
