Kangasala is a municipality in Finland, next to Tampere. The municipality has a population of 23,453 (2003) and covers an area of 479.31 km² of which 123.62 km² is water. The population density is 48.9 inhabitants per km².
It was founded in 1865.
It is famous for its natural beauty, as depicted by Sakari Topelius in his poem Kesäpäivä Kangasalla (made into a song by Gabriel Linsén ). It is also known for its mansions, such as Liuksiala where Swedish queen Karin Månsdotter lived, and Wääksy .
Finnish author Jalmari Finne was born and lived in Kangasala.
