KXAS-TV is a local NBC O&O station based in Fort Worth. It broadcasts on Channel 5. Formerly known as WBAP-TV, it was launched on September 28, 1948 by a Texan named Amon G. Carter.
It is notable for being the first television station in Texas.
The station was owned by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram from 1948 to 1974, and sold to LIN Television (during which time it changed its call letters to KXAS), who owned it until the early 2000s.
