Jorge Raschke

Jorge Raschke (born c 1930) is a Puerto Rican pentecostal pastor who is well known for his opinions on many subjects as well as for his religious campaigns.

Reverend Raschke has travelled all over Latin America and the United States to preach. He has also publicized a considerable amount of Christian books.

In 1954, Raschke went to Brazil, where he was named pastor of a number of churches.

After returning from Brazil, Raschke established a church in Puerto Rico. Almost right away after his return, he discovered that a new type of technology had arrived in Puerto Rico: television. Raschke began one of his most famous public campaigns by calling television "The Devil's box", a view that he still maintains. Raschke, his wife and children have never owned television sets.

His views against television come from his personal belief that certain television time slots compete against church attendance. He is particularly opposed to telenovelas, which are shown at times when some churches hold weekday services, and against the showing of children's cartoons on sunday mornings.

Reverend Raschke has travelled all over Latin America, and he has held conferences and church services (apart from Puerto Rico and Brazil), in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and other countries.

Reverend Raschke has been holding a yearly event, "Clamor a Dios" for some decades now. The event is held at the entrance of Puerto Rico's governor's house, La Fortaleza, and it draws between hundreds and thousands of Christians from all around the island.

He also holds annual closed doors meetings at La Fortaleza with the governor and leaders of other religions in Puerto Rico. Some other leaders who have participated in these reunions include Teofilo Vargas Sein and Catholic priest Roberto Gonzalez .

Raschke is against homosexuality, having participated in 31 consecutive yearly anti-gay rallies in Puerto Rico. He has been one of the most outspoken religious leaders agains homosexuals in Puerto Rico, sometimes causing newspaper and general media controversy with his anti-gay comments.
