Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is the fifth movie from Kevin Smith, famous for his cult films Clerks. and Mallrats and the more commercially successful films Chasing Amy and Dogma. The title is a take-off on the second Star Wars film, The Empire Strikes Back.

At the time Smith said that this would be the last of his films to feature Jay and Silent Bob. He has since announced that they will appear in the film Clerks II: Passion of the Clerks. It includes numerous references to Smith's earlier films, including brief appearances by many characters from those films.

This movie is a prime example of the phenomenon of fanservice. While maintaining its own plot, the movie has nearly constant references to past Kevin Smith/Jersey Trilogy movies, contains myriad cameos, in-jokes, and homages to pop-culture icons, especially the aforementioned Star Wars movies.

The soundtrack to this film features the 2001 Afroman hit, Because I Got High, whose music video was directed by Kevin Smith and featured the characters Jay and Silent Bob.

Plot

The story is about how the two stoners find out that the comic book characters based on them are being turned into a movie by Miramax. After finding out about the internet, and finding posts on a website Moviepoopshoot.com, the duo discover that their characters are unliked. Worrying that people will start to think of them as "gay", Jay and Silent Bob leave their town of New Jersey, for Hollywood, to stop the movie from being made.
