James Wood (1747 - 1813) was a U.S. soldier and political figure. He served as a brigadier general in the American Revolutionary War, and as the governor of Virginia from 1796 to 1799.
Wood's father, James Wood Sr., was also a noteworthy figure, being the founder of Winchester, Virginia, and the man who helped George Washington win his first election to public office. [1]
