James Curtiss

James Curtiss (also Curtis) (born: April, 1803; died: November 2, 1859; originally buried in City Cemetery ). Twice served as mayor of Chicago, Illinois (1847-1848 and 1850-1851) for the Democratic Party.

Curtiss arrived in Chicago from New York, New York in 1835 and opened a law office. When an addition was added to Chicago in 1839, it was called Carpenter and Curtiss and Curtiss and developer Philo Carpenter .

Originally buried in City Cemetery, when the Cemetery was moved to make way for Lincoln Park, his remains were lost.
