Jacques Villeré

Jacques Phillippe Villeré (1760 - 7 March, 1830) was the second Governor of Louisiana after it became a state.

He was the first Creole and the first native of Louisiana to attain that office.

He served as a first lieutenant in the artillery before the Louisiana Purchase. He participated in the Battle of New Orleans as a major general of the state militia.

He a member of the convention which drafted Louisiana's first state constitution.

He first ran for governor in 1812 but was defeated in the election by William C. C. Claiborne, but won in 1816, taking office the following year and serving through 1820.
