Ike Jonathan Awgu (born on October 14, 1983 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) is a noted Black Canadian. Awgu rose to national prominence when before reaching the age of 21, he chose to run in the 2003 municipal election in Ottawa, as a candidate for the mayoralty. With 2.92% of the vote, Awgu finished third place out of eight contenders. Awgu's candidacy and youth-oriented platform were seen by many journalists in the media as a great victory for youth participation in politics.
After the municipal election, he became a weekly columnist for the Ottawa Sun newspaper. Awgu also hosted his own politics-oriented national television show on CPAC, called X-Factor in the summer of 2004. He is currently studying economics and math at Carleton University, and will be graduating in 2005. Awgu will be attending Queen's University in September of 2005 to study law.
In March 2004, Awgu was a semi-finalist at the Canadian National Debating Championships.
