IAR 316

The IAR 316 the Romanian version, built under licence, of Aerospatiale_SA_319B Alouette III light utility helicopter. IAR 316 is used for both military and civil purposes. The production started in 1970 at the IAR plant near Brasov. More than 230 units were built, some of them were exported to countries like Iran, Pakistan, Angola and Guinea. The helicopter is still operational with the Romanian Air Force and as a utility helicopter. A light attack helicopter (IAR 317 ) was also developed based on IAR 316 but only 14 units have been buit.
