Huney

Huney is an uninhabited island near to the island of Unst in the Shetland Islands. The island is located approximately 1 kilometre south west of the island of Balta and has an area of 20,000 square metres.

Huney is linked to Unst at an extreme low tide by an a sandy tombolo called the Yei of Huney.

The World War 1 British E class submarine E49 was sunk in the channel between Huney and Balta with the loss of all hands March 12, 1917. The submarine was heading out of Baltasound on patrol when it struck a mine lain by German u-boat UC-76.
