Huddinge Municipality

Huddinge is one of the largest municipalities of Stockholm County, in central Sweden, 15 minutes south of the Capital by road or train. The "city municipality" covers an area of 131 km², the entire central part of the Södertörn peninsula, housing a total population of 88,000 (or 4,5 % of the population in Stockholm County), according to the municipality's own calculations for the year 2004. The average age is 36,7 years although one third of the population is under 25 years of age. This means that Huddinge has a slightly younger population than both Stockholm County (38,9 yrs.) and the whole kingdom (40,6 yrs.). The population density of the municipality was then 671 inhabitants per km² but is increasing significantly. It is among the 20 largest municipalities in the country and the second largest in Stockholm County, after Stockholm City. Since the 1960's the population has doubled in size.

Huddinge municipality is sub-divided into six parts: Skogås/Trångsund (pop. 22,223), Sjödalen /Fullersta (pop. 18,439), Stuvsta /Snättringe (pop. 14,879), Flemingsberg (pop. 12,682), Segeltorp (pop. 10,507) and Vårby (pop. 9,271). These areas occupy four congregations: Huddinge, Trångsund, Flemingsberg and S:t Mikael.

The municipality contains five nature reserves, six public libraries, Södertörn University College and Kungens Kurva , one of Sweden's largest shopping centers.

Huddinge municipality borders with Stockholm, Ekerö (by water), Botkyrka, Haninge and Tyresö (by water) municipalities.
