Horace Engdahl

Horace Engdahl (born December 30, 1948) is the secretary of the Swedish Academy, succeeding Sture Allén in 1999.

Engdahl took his PhD in 1987 (Stockholm University) with a study on Swedish romanticism, and is currently professor of Scandinavian literature at the University of Aarhus (Denmark).

He speaks Swedish, English, German, French and Russian fluently.

Horace Engdahl is married to Ebba Witt-Brattström, former member of the feminist organisation Grupp 8 and professor of literature at the university of Södertörn. They have three sons: Caspar, Marcel and Fabius.
