Holmsund is a small village near Umeå City in Västerbotten, northern Sweden, which serves as a port for Umeå city. To the west across the sound, there is a town called Obbola . Both Holmsund and Obbola have wood and paper industries.

One of the better-known establishments in the town is "Mäster Erik". It is basically a restaurant and a Youth Hostel, but also has Student Rooms. This is the most likely place in Holmsund to find people from all over the world.
