The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), a division of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, envisions optimal health for all, supported by a health care system that assures access to comprehensive, culturally competent, quality care. HRSA provides national leadership, program resources and services needed to improve access to culturally competent, quality health care. Its budget was US$7.21 billion in FY 2004. HRSA employs about 2,000 individuals in Washington, D.C. and 10 regional offices.
As the nation's Access Agency, HRSA focuses on uninsured, underserved, and special needs populations in its goals and program activities:
