Greater Bombay

Greater Bombay was the term used to denote the suburban area of Bombay, India. The seven islets of Bombay were merged to form the Old Bombay. The islands were further merged with the islands of Salcette and Trombay to get a monolithic island now known as Salcette Island. The area of Greater Bombay stretches from Sion and Mahim in the south, to Dahisar and Mulund in the north.

The term Greater Bombay is now archaic. Instead the region is simply known as the suburbs. Greater Bombay forms a district in the state of Maharashtra. Its capital is Bandra (East). Although the city has changed its name to Mumbai, is no such term as Greater Mumbai.
