Iraq is divided into 18 provinces or governorates, called muhafazat in Arabic (singular - muhafazah):

Baghdad (بغداد)
Salah ad Din (صلاح الدين)

Al Basrah (البصرة)
Dhi Qar (ذي قار)
Al Muthanna
Al Qadisyah (القادسية)

Babil (بابل)
