Goldsmiths College (founded 1891 by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths as Goldsmiths' Technical and Recreative Institute) has been a part of the federal University of London since 1904, when it took its current name.

It initially occupied a building in New Cross created in 1843 for the Royal Naval School. This was vacated by the school in 1889 when it moved to Mottingham in south-east London.

Goldsmiths specialises in courses and research relating to creativity and culture, and has a reputation for producing visual artists. This reputation was largely established by the influence of Michael Craig-Martin, Jon Thompson and Nick De Ville as teaching staff. It is located in New Cross, London.
