George Brandis (born 22 June 1957), Australian politician, has been a Liberal member of the Australian Senate since May 2000, representing Queensland. He was appointed by the state parliament to fill a casual vacancy. He was born in Sydney, New South Wales, and received a Bachelor of Law and Legal Practice from the University of Queensland and subsequently a Bachelor in Civil Law from Oxford University. He was appointed to the bar in 1985. In October 2003 he featured prominently in the media when he accused the Greens of being Nazis. He claimed that he would continue to make such accusations. However, since the academics he referenced said that their research had been misrepresented, he has been silent on what the Greens stand for [1].
