The famous organist Georg Böhm (September 2 ,1661 - May 18, 1733) was born in Hohenkirchen , Thuringia Germany. It is know that for a period of time Böhm worked in the town of Hamburg, where he may have studied with Johann Adam Reinken. He Later moved to Lüneburg, Hanover where in 1698 he became the organist of The Church of St. John, a position he held until his death in 1733. Böhm is mainly known for his compositions for the organ and harpsichord, (primarily preludes, fugues, and partitas ) many of which became a great influnce for the German composer Johann Sebastian Bach.
