The Genyosha (玄洋社) (or Dark Ocean Society) is a Japanese criminal society formed in 1881 by Toyama Mitsura . It was an ultranationalist group comprised of organized crime figures and those with far right-wing political beliefs. Though it was short-lived, it set the stage for the modernization of the yakuza and solidified the ties between right-wing politicians and organized crime.
