Gangaikonda Cholapuram is a village in the inland Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu, India. The Chola king Rajendra Chola I made it his capital during the first half of the 11th century, and it remained the capital of the Chola Empire until well into the 13th century. Today little remains of Rajendra's capital city except for a well-preserved Hindu temple built in the mediaeval Tamil style.
