Gabriel García Moreno (1821 — 1875) was an Ecuadorian statesman who twice served as President of that country (1859-1865 and 1869-1875). He is noted for his conservatism, Catholic religious perspective, and rivalry with liberal strongman Eloy Alfaro.
García Moreno founded the Conservative Party in 1869. He was killed in office by a machete-wielding Colombian citizen.
