Gällivare is a Municipality in Norrbotten County, in northern Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 16000.0 km². Of the total population of 20037, 10297 are male, and 9740 are female. The population density of the community is 1 inhabitants per km².

The town Malmberget is chiefly known as a major site for extraction of iron ore from deep mines.
