Fur Rendezvous festival

The Fur Rendezvous festival is an annual event held in Anchorage, Alaska. Running approximately the middle of February through early March, Fur Rendezvous (Fur Rondy for short) started somewhere between 1935 - 1939 as a spring-time carnival of events and sports competitions for Anchorage-area residents. Trapping, which was an important industry in the region at the time, virtually simultaneously became synmous with this spring gathering, as an opportunity for local trappers to sell their winter wares at flea market swaps and Fur trade. It is this fur trade for which the annual event became named after and is today known as, Fur Rendezvous.
