Friends Seminary

Friends Seminary is the name of a private, Quaker school located in downtown Manhattan on 16th street between 2nd and 3rd avenues. It has a kindergarten through 12th grade curriculum, and its student body numbers between 600 and 650 students.

It was founded in 1786 on Pearl Street where it was first called the Friends Institute. In 1826 it later moved to a larger campus on Elizibeth Street. The school again moved in 1860 to its current location and changed the name to Friends Seminary.

Current Facts(as of March 2005): The pricipal is Robert (Bo) Lauder, who became principal in 2002. There are 655 students in kindergarten through 12th grades. Tuition costs $22,120 for kindergarten through fourth grade and $23,140 for Grades 5 through 12.
