Faroese religion is part of the Lutheran evangelical movement. It is the second largest protestantic movement in the babtistic community. Faroe is a group islands located between Scotland and Iceland, and is part Denmark's governmental structure, and as such the people of Faroe, practice the same religion of Denmark.
Faroe originally belonged to Norway, but after the reformation it fell under the jurisdiction of Denmark. It became a Catholic country in about 1000 AD. The last Catholic bishop was Amundur Olavson, and he was replaced by the first Lutheran Bishop,Jens Gregersøn Riber, in 1540 AD.
There exists ancient evidence about when this country became a Christian country in the faroese saga . The saga states that the king of Norway told Sigmund to go by ship to the Faroe Islands with orders from The King of Norway. Sigmund´s orders where clear: he was supposed to make the 17 small islands Christian, which is what he did, according to the saga. This event is believed to have taken place around 1000 AD and the Faroe did not establish an organised Catholic Church before around 1100 AD, so there does appear to be some inconsistencies in the saga.
Today the Catholic Church is an absolute minority and there are also a small group of the Adventist Movement in the region. The Jehovah Witnisses and Bahai faith are also established in the island.
