Evros is one of the fifty-one prefectures of Greece and is the northernmost. It is located in the eastern and the northeastern part of the Greek part of Thrace, and borders Turkey at the Evros river. Evros borders Bulgaria to the north and the northwest. The Rodhopi prefecture is bounded to its west. Evros is the northernmost prefecture in Greece. Its capital town is Alexandroupolis. Evros covers nearly one-third of the Greek Thrace. The second river is the Ardas river. The river area was devastated by floods from February 17 to February 22 2005 and again from March 1 to March 4, 2005. The Rhodope mountains lie to the west.
