Euhemeros was a Greek mythologist living in the early 3rd century BC, who developed a new approach for interpreting mythology. He suggested that the gods were based on heroes who after their deaths lived on as gods in the minds of people.

His views were widely successful in the Hellenistic world , but they were critised as atheistic.
