Ernst van Heerden is a leading Afrikaans poet.

Born South Africa, 1916, he is an openly gay academic, he is famous for his poems on sport. He received a Silver Medal for poetry at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, where he also managed the South African wrestling team.
