Era of Good Feelings

In the United States, the years after the end of the War of 1812 have been called the Era of Good Feelings because of the lack of partisan political strife. In the Election of 1816, James Monroe decisively defeated the last of the Federalist candidates, and he was overwhelmingly re-elected in the Election of 1820 with no opposition whatsoever. The electoral vote was 231-1, with the lone vote being used to preserve George Washington's record of being the only person to be unanimously elected to the presidency.
