El Vocero

El Vocero is a Puerto Rican newspaper that is published in the Puerta de Tierra barrio, in the city of San Juan.

Published since the 1970s, El Vocero was at first the third of the four large Puerto Rico newspapers, trailing El Mundo and El Nuevo Día (then El Día), and leading El Reportero in sales. With the temporary demise in the late 1980s of El Mundo, El Vocero became even more popular, becoming the country's second largest newspaper.

For most of its history, El Vocero was known as a sensationalist newspaper that carried all the violent news, such as murders, drug arrests, rapes, and child kidnappings. However, in the early 2000s, with a new board of directors, the newspaper changed its direction, carrying more political news and news about the situation in Vieques than crime information.

In addition to its regular news section, El Vocero also has business, religion, show-business and sports sections.

El Vocero reaches every city in Puerto Rico. It also has New York, Miami, and Chicago editions.
