Ekerö is a municipality in Stockholm County, in central Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 216.0 km². Of the total population of 22 266, 11 078 are male, and 11 188 are female. The population density of the community is 103 inhabitants per km².

The municipality contains 140 islands in the middle to east of Lake Mälaren. The largest ones are Färingsö , Adelsö, Ekerö, Munsö , Lovö and Björkö.
