Duke Wen of Jin (697 BC - 618 BC) was leader in the state of Jin in the Spring and Autumn Period of Chinese history. His name was Ji Zhonger and he was the son of Duke Xian . After Duke Xian made his brother Xiqi successor, Zhonger ran away for 19 years. In 636 BC he went back to his state, guarded by troops from the state of Qin. Zhonger started political reform after he took his throne. He also helped King Xiang of Zhou back to his palace. In the battle of Chengpu his troops defeated the state of Chu and gained hegemony there.
