Dubna

Dubna is a small city located in central Russia, approximately 125 km north of Moscow.

Dubna is best known as the location of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), whose purpose is to research heavy elements. The name of Element 105, Dubnium, is derived from the name of the city.

Dubna was founded in 1956. The population of Dubna was approximately 67800 as of year 2000 (this date is also approximate).

Much in Dubna is related to JINR. Large percentage of population works in JINR, you can find street names related to physics, for example Neutrino street, Proton street. Also Moscow State University has its branch in Dubna where students come to participate in research activities in JINR.
