Iris Oifigiúil (Pronounced: IR-ISH IFIC-GOUL Meaning: Official Gazette) replaced the Dublin Gazette on January 31, 1922 as the official newspaper of record of the Irish Free State. Iris Oifigiuil is generally referred/translated as the Irish State Gazette in English. Since then the Irish Free State became Éire/Ireland, now generally called the Republic of Ireland.

The Dublin Gazette was published since November 7, 1706 with the final edition on January 27, 1922. In 1921 the Belfast Gazette was published for the then newly created Northern Ireland to publish material relevant to it.

Prima facie evidence on notices of government business are published in the newspaper, these include orders, rules and proclamations. The paper is published twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays and is available online as well as hardcopy by the Office of Public Works.
