Doubled die

In Numismatics, a Doubled Die error is one in which the die used to strike the image onto the coin accidentally strikes the coin twice, sometimes at angles. The results are coins in which either the obverse or reverse (or rarely, both) are either bold or visibly doubled.

Doubled Die error coins fetch significant prices, as modern coining methods have vastly reduced the frequency of these errors.
