Dosemu

DOSEMU, alternatively rendered dosemu, is a compatibility layer software package that enables MS-DOS software to run under Linux on x86-based PCs (IBM PC compatible computers).

DOSEMU is an option for people who need or want to continue to use their old DOS software. Some old DOS games run so fast under Windows XP, due to the CPU's high speed, that players aren't able to get hold of what's happening on the screen. Other DOS applications and games cannot run at all under Windows. Some games and several classic development tools such as Turbo C and Turbo Pascal run well under DOSEMU, which is small in modern terms of disk and memory space and reportedly easy to install.

On Windows NT and OS/2 the equivalents of dosemu are called VDMs or Virtual DOS machines. On the old SCO UNIX, the equivalent was called Merge.
