Dorotea is a Municipality in Västerbotten County, in northern Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 2802.5 km². Of the total population of 3353, 1734 are male, and 1619 are female. The population density of the community is 1 inhabitants per km².

On May 21, 1799 the town of Bergvattnet was renamed Dorotea, in honour of Queen Frederica Dorothea Wilhelmina of Sweden.
