Donovan Cech

Donovan Cech (b. 5 May 1974) is a South African rower. He competes in the Coxless Pairs division and his boat partner for the past few years has been Ramon Di Clemente. The pair are currently the holders of a Bronze medal won in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

Achievements

  • 2004 - Represented S.A at the 2004 Summer Olympics, awarded bronze.
  • 2003 - World Championships bronze
  • 2002 - Represented SA in the World Rowing Championships in Seville, Spain – placed 2nd in Mens Coxless Pairs.
  • Represented S.A in the 1st and 3rd legs of the Rowing World Cup in Hazewinkel, Belgium and Lucerne, Switzerland – placed 3rd and 5th respectively in the Mens Coxless Pairs.
  • Lost narrowly in the final of the Silver Goblets in Henley Royal Regatta, Henley, England.
  • 2001 - Represented SA in the World Rowing Championships in Lucerne, Switzerland: placed 3rd in Men's Coxless Pairs.
  • Represented SA in the 2nd and 4th Legs of the Rowing World Cup in Seville, Spain and Munich, Germany – placed 3rd and 1st respectively in the Mens Coxless Pairs.
  • Ended 2nd in the Overall standings of the Rowing World Cup behind Great Britain.
  • 2000 - Represented S.A at The 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia – placed 6th in the A Final of the Mens Coxless Pairs.
  • Represented SA in the 1st and 2nd Legs of the Rowing World Cup in Munich, Germany and Vienna - placed 4th and 9th respectively in Mens Coxless Pairs.
  • Represented SA in the African Championships in Pretoria – placed 1st in the Mens Coxless Pairs; placed 1st in Mens Eights.
  • 1999 - Represented S.A at the Rowing World Championships in St Catherines, Canada - placed 1st in B Final in Mens Coxless Pairs (7th Overall of 23 countries)
  • Represented SA in the Commonwealth Rowing Championships in London, Canada – placed 2nd in Mens Coxless Pairs behind Australia; placed 3rd in Mens Eights behind Australia and Great Britain.
  • Represented SA in the Holland Cup in Amsterdam, Netherlands – placed 1st and 3rd in the Mens Coxless Pairs.
  • Represented SA in the 1st and 2nd legs of the Rowing World Cup in Hazewinkel, Belgium and Vienna, Austria – placed 4th in Hazewinkel in Mens Coxless Pairs.
  • 1998 - Represented SA at the Nile International Regatta in Cairo, Egypt - placed 1st in the Mens Coxless Pairs; placed 1st in the Mens Eights.
  • Represented S.A at the African Championships in Cairo, Egypt - placed 1st in the Mens Coxless Pairs.
  • Represented SA at the Rowing World Championships in Cologne, Germany - placed 5th in the B Final of Mens Coxless Pairs (11th Place of 21 countries )
  • Represented SA in the Final Leg of the Rowing World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland - runners up in B Final of Mens Coxless Pairs (8th Place of 20 countries)
