A Disa (ON dís) belonged to the Disor who were a group of female spirits or minor goddesses in Norse mythology.

Freya who came from the Vanir was called Vanadis (the goddess of the Vanir).

The name has been given to the genus Disa of the orchid family (Orchidaceae). Its members are primarily from South Africa, and it is most noted for the species Disa uniflora, a spectacular red orchid also known as "The pride of Table Mountain." Once very rare in cultivation, the species is gaining in popularity as a cut flower.
