Dan Biocchi

Dan Biocchi is a Canadian politician and former Olympic athlete (track and field). He was born November 28, 1955 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He emigrated to Montreal, Quebec in the August of 1962.

He earned a Master's degree in political science at the University of Alberta, and taught political science at both McGill University and Marianopolis College in Montreal. He has been a Latin American correspondent with Associated Press.

He was the founder of the Ottawa chapter of Fair Vote Canada, an organization that lobbies for proportional representation. He was also a committed member of the Latin American Solidarity Community in the 1980s, and assisted Chilean refugees in escaping the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.

Biocchi was the Green Party of Canada's Citizenship & Immigration critic during the 2004 federal election, and its candidate in the riding of Ottawa--Orléans. Biocchi placed fourth out of four candidates, winning 2,699 votes (4.6% of the total). The winning candidate was the Liberal Party of Canada's Marc Godbout.
