. The Municipality of the Crowsnest Pass is a community in the Canadian Rockies west of the Alberta/British Columbia border on Highway 3. The pass, 1356 m high (4450 ft) is named after the mountain on the right of the pass, Crowsnest Mountain. The municipality consists of five towns, (from west to east) Coleman, Blairmore, Frank, Hillcrest Mines, and Bellview.

History

In 1898 a branch of the Canadian Pacific Railway was built through the pass, mostly to exploit the area's large coal fields. After some unfortunate events all of the Albertan mines have closed. The towns were amalgamated on January 1, 1980. Today the pass is crossed by the Crowsnest Highway and an oil pipe line. It is the southernmost of Canada's major Rocky Mountain passes.
