Community of Agglomeration Nice Côte d'Azur

The Community of Agglomeration Nice Côte d'Azur (French: Communauté d'Agglomération Nice Côte d'Azur), also known by its initials CANCA, is the intercommunal structure gathering the city of Nice (France) and some of its suburbs.

The Community of Agglomeration Nice Côte d'Azur encompasses essentialy the eastern part of the metropolitan area of Nice (see infobox at Nice article for the metropolitan area), the western communes of the metropolitan area around Cannes and Antibes having refused to join in.

Those parts of the metropolitan area that are not inside the CANCA have formed different intercommunal structures, such as:

  • Community of Agglomeration of Sophia-Antipolis (Communauté d'agglomération de Sophia-Antipolis): 159,392 inhabitants, with Antibes in it
  • Community of Agglomeration of the Middle Provence Country (Communauté d'agglomération du Moyen Pays Provençal): 65,614 inhabitants
  • Community of Communes of the Paillons Country (Communauté de communes du Pays des Paillons): 20,716 inhabitants
  • etc.

As of the beginning of 2005, Cannes itself and the few communes around Cannes still refuse to join any intercommunal structure or to create one of their own.
