Clwyd is a preserved county of Wales, formed from the traditional counties of Denbighshire and Flintshire, and parts of Merionethshire. From 1974 until 1994, it was a administrative county, with a county council, and was divided into six districts

For administrative purposes, Clwyd was split in 1994 into the unitary authorities of Flintshire, Denbighshire, and parts of Conwy and Powys.

In 2003, the remaining preserved county of Clwyd changed to cover the remainder of Conwy (which had previously been part of Gwynedd).
