Clube da Esquina

The Clube da Esquina (in English "Corner Club") is a genre of Brazilian music, started in 1960s, at Belo Horizonte, capital state of Minas Gerais, by several musicians from that state led by Milton Nascimento.

Clube da Esquina mixes progressive rock, bossa nova and other jazzies styles, Brazilian country folk music, and some kind of Classical music as Medieval or baroque. The Beatles was the greatest influecer of Clube da Esquina.

Clube da Esquina is usually regarded as the second most important musical movement from Brasil, as well as Tropicália -- bossa nova is regarded to be the first one.

In 1963 Milton Nascimento moved from Três Pontas, interior of state of Minas Gerais, to capital Belo Horizonte, to live in Levy building. There already lived the Borges Family, including Márcio Borges . One day, after watching three times in a row the movie Jules et Jim , by François Truffaut, Milton and Márcio started composing (Milton already played in some bars of Belo Horizonte): while Márcio wrote the lyrics, Milton wrote the music.
