Claudio Wílliman was the care-taker president of Uruguay chosen by José Batlle y Ordóñez to succeed him after his first term in office. His policies generally followed those of Batlle. He was succeeded by Batlle at the end of his term. This is due to the fact that Uruguayan presidents are barred by the current Constitution from serving consecutive terms.
